Crack Filling

Even properly designed and constructed asphalt pavement can become cracked over time. Cracks in your asphalt pavement can be caused by water accumulation in low lying areas and/or excessive weight loads and the destructive effects of gasoline and oil spills. Once cracked, an asphalt drive or parking lot becomes susceptible to major deterioration and if left unchecked, these cracks can lead to costly repairs.

Allowing a crack to exist for an extended period of time allows water to continuously run into that crack, eventually eroding the base of your asphalt. The freeze and thaw cycles in Pittsburgh also accelerate the size of cracks.Filling cracks in a timely manner extends the life of your asphalt and saves you money. Cracks that are ignored eventually turn into sunken, broken(alligatored) areas or worse (pot holes.) Once this type of destruction is evident the cost of repair goes up substantially. We highly recommend filling all cracks 1/4" or wider. Crack fill is an elastic material designed to seal cracks preventing further moisture damage to asphalt base.

JAK McMillan uses a hot rubber application heated to approximately 350 degrees to maximize bonding between the crack and existing asphalt. This process insures the material does not pop out with temperature changes.
